Nice timing, guys! :-) When I took it out of the mailbox I wondered for a moment if you had stopped doing CDs (which would have explained the absence of CDeadlines in the calendar of late), but finally found something hard hiding inside the magazine. Are you going to distribute them like this from now on? Oh well, at least it's better than putting the CD in a featureless plastic bag... I'm not sure why you bothered to seal the 'envelope' though - the one I got is so tight I had to use some force (and my fingernails) to pull the CD out of it. It definitely isn't going to fall out on its own! Anyway I moved the CD to a leftover jewel box (time to get some more I guess) and with a bit of trimming (and removing the glue flaps) I could use the wrapper as an inlay card. If you're going to keep distributing the CDs like that it would be nice if you could leave a little space at the top and bottom so I can trim the envelope without losing any text... I neeed something for the spine though. To make it look similar, what font(s) did you use for that before? (Any chance of getting the spine text as an ILBM file on the CD or something so those who want one can just print it out?) ------------------------------ message 46804 ------------------------------ http://www.eGroups.com/list/afb/?start=46804 From: Matthew O'Neill Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2000 21:01:42 +0100 In-Reply-To: <880vtr$sqoc@eGroups.com> X-Mailing-List: afb@egroups.com Subject: [afb] Re: New ABC MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit On 11-Feb-00, Nick Lamburn wrote: > * I'm 100 miles away from Bristol > * I'm almost Seventeen > * Which means legally I cannot drive :) (though I can!) > * I cannot afford the taxi there ;)) > * Bus's don't go that far! :) I'd have thought not being able to buy the beer would be more of a problem... When the new Amigataothing comes out, it won't be a classic Amiga. This in itself is not a problem, (I'll always keep my A4000 for the Classic OS), but what will AF do? Presumably a new computer platform will bring with it some new users, new developers (at this point i'm assuming Aminoga do their work correctly), new advertisers etc. etc. Will AF immediately go mostly Amigataothing, or will Amigataothing take up gradually more and more pages of the mag as it (hopefully) takes off? Or will Fewtch just launch a new magazine? It's the latest version of the most advanced 'Tron'-game...26 objects, 8 creatures, isometric 3D, sound effects & music, 0-4 players, integral field editor, etc. etc. It has been in development since 1993 and 7 years later it is up to version 5.3. It's our flagship product and quite popular. It has been in Amiga Format issues 129-131 (we're based in Australia, 131 is the latest issue that has hit these shores yet) on the coverdisks and CD-ROMs, but those versions are quite old comparatively (V4.3 on issue 131). Since then there have been many enhancements. Permission is again granted to Amiga Format to distribute the game. It's on our website at http://users.interact.net.au/~cjaj/amigan.html and it should appear on Aminet (games/misc) in about a day. One word of warning, it *does* require a 15KHz PAL capability. It doesn't work with VGA monitors, etc. V5.4 will address this. The only other thing it needs is OS2.04+. It can take advantage of OS3.5 if you are running it. Report+ 2.01 This has 3 functions: (1) to replace Report 40.2 (official bug reporting tool); (2) to generate Aminet readmes, and (3) to administer the Amiga Certified Engineer Test (ACSE). It is this last capability that is the most interesting... The ACSE qualification is an ICOA-endorsed qualification for Amiga software developers. This has come from Amigan Software, on behalf of the Amiga Qualifications Working Group (AQWG). Report+ 2.x is your complete ACSE pack. Except of course that you must send your keyfile to us for certification and entry on the ACSE 'roll of honour'. The qualification covers AGA and OS3.5. It has been developed by programmer for programmers. Now you can finally have an industry-standard certification similar to MSCE and CNE but pertaining to the Amiga. Report+ 2.01 runs in any screenmode, and has several other enhancements over Report+ 2.0. It is available now from http://users.interact.net.au /~cjaj/amigan.html and also from Aminet (util/misc). So why not go to Amigan Software's website and have a look at these 2 programs. There are also other goodies (eg. how to run OS3.5 in 2Mb) and a huge links section, as well as a local archive of the AWD, etc. and a lot of good graphics that everyone likes to steal :-) James Jacobs CEO, Amigan Software Amiga Certified Software Engineer Member, TAEN Canberra, Australia http://users.interact.net.au/~cjaj/amigan.html james_jacobs@altavista.net ------------------------------ message 46832 ------------------------------ http://www.eGroups.com/list/afb/?start=46832 From: Colin Buckenham Date: Sat, 12 Feb 2000 15:45:21 +0000 In-Reply-To: X-Mailing-List: afb@egroups.com Subject: [afb] Apollo 060/75mhz accelerator & Squirrel Problem MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary Hello All. I have set it up to be unit 6 running via atapi.device unit 1. I can format it as a Prodos disk though. System 7.6 reports no drive available (via system info) but shows the two CD-ROM drives no problem. Friday 11 Feb 3pm. Placed order with Analogic for tracker ball and mouse. (bought them both becase it is getting harder to find an Amiga mouse) Saturday 12 Feb 7.32 am postie gets me out of my bed with above goods. (Dundee, bonnie Scotland) End result . Bloody good service. BTW they got my order because, a) Blittersoft do not sell Amiga mice. b) Epic did not answer their phone. I just wonder how much more business the above are losing out on. Also the the tracker is brillant. Go get one. 'ize' is the CORRECT way of ending, ie. organize, standardize, specialize etc. Check in the Oxford English Dictionary. The spelling of these types of words using 'ise' instead of 'ize' must be one of the most common spelling mistakes made in English. -- _____________________________________________ DataTech D.T.P.
